Letter from the Director

Welcome to UWMUN’s third In-House! This will be a "crisis committee," which means that you will have to respond to pre-set crisis updates as well as take your own actions via private directives to shape the story arc. The setting is ripe for the crisis variant of MUN, as Weimar Germany came close to collapsing into chaos multiple times, due to a variety of factors. The two decades before the Second World war were perhaps the most pivotal two decades of politics in modern history. Especially in Germany, political extremists clashed with centrists who tried to establish a stable democracy, all the while the debts from the Treaty of Versailles threatened economic collapse at any moment. Tragically, the worst case scenario prevailed and by September 1st, 1939, the world descended into the most destructive war humanity had yet seen. YOU, however, have the power to avert this disastrous turn of events by representing a key party or NGO in German society. With your speeches in the German Reichstag (parliament) and your use of your portfolio powers to sway the German population or even sabotage your rival delegates, YOU will shape the future of early 20th century Germany, and thus shape the future of the entire modern world.

Viel Glück and may the spirit of the German people be with you,

Max Zwarenstein, Committee Director
